Motorshow@ Manchester Arndale took place in October 2006. The
show offered the leading car brands and dealerships the opportunity
to exhibit in Manchester’s city centre shopping environment.
The location of Manchester Arndale meant that the car exhibits
were placed throughout the shopping centre rather then all in one
event space which encouraged shoppers to tour the centre looking
for their next auto purchase.
The objectives when creating this motorshow were tailored to suit
a city centre shopping centre, with product placement playing a
major role in its design. Each car brand was designated a specific
plot that positioned them close to a retailer with a similar target
audience, to maximize the benefits of being in the mall.
It was important to communicate with people walking past the Manchester
Arndale to let them know the motorshow was taking place. To attract
attention from passers by, a Mercedes-Benz 4x4 was parked on the
stairs up to the shopping centre, which was a very eye catching
feature, in a pedestrian location and balancing up the stairs!
Although this show focused far more on the positioning and logistics
of the motors, due to the strict space and H&S requirements
of the venue, there were still several fun elements to the show
including a F1 racing car simulator and a 1929 Rolls Royce Phanton
2 on display in the city where Charles Stewart Rolls and Frederick
Henry Royce met for the first time and spawned the iconic motoring
brand.
